On The Prowl: Tiger Woods’ Top 5 Moments

You can’t mention the name Tiger Woods without his scandalous sex-life being thrown into the conversation. He’s been caught with his trousers down more times than he’s got his hands on a major championship, yet, after a 15-month dry spell, the golfing world is finally ready to welcome the return of the game’s greatest ever player.

14-time major winner, Woods, will make his competitive comeback at this week’s Hero Challenge in The Bahamas. It is his first appearance at a tour event since finishing tied for 10th at the Wyndham Championship in August 2015.

Woods had originally hoped to be back in October at the PGA Tour’s Safeway Open, then playing the following month in a European Tour event in Turkey. He never made either start.

However, the fateful day has now arrived and we at PledgeSports, as well as millions of other golfing fans around the world, are ecstatic to see the game’s greatest icon tee it up once again.

To get you in the mood, here are Tiger Woods’ “Top 5 Moments” – Enjoy!

No.5 – 2001 Players Championship, TPC Sawgrass

“Better than most”, is the quote so often associated with this outrageous putt from Tiger Woods. Faced with a devilish 60-foot, triple-breaking putt from the back of the famous 17th green, Tiger produced this unbelievable moment:

No. 4 – 1997 Phoenix Open

The Phoenix Open has always had the best crowd of any all professional golf events on any tour around the world. The raucous crowd that gathers on the par-3 16th at TPC Scottsdale is as loud as any other set of fans from any other sport. Throw a young Tiger Woods in the mix and the result is one that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up:

No.3 – 2000 Canadian Open

Sixteen years on from this famous shot and still there are no words to describe its difficulty. After blocking his drive into a fairway bunker on the par-5 18th in Glen Abbey, Tiger was left with a 213-yard shot over water if he was to give himself a look at eagle. Lay up? No chance. Tiger pulled a 6-iron and hit what will always be one of the greatest shots ever played:

No.2 – 2002 PGA Championship

Picture the scene – US Open, Hazeltine, 18th hole. Tiger sticks his tee-shot in the fairway bunker, leaving himself a 210-yard, uphill approach for his second. Factor in a severe downhill lie, an incredibly awkward stance and a tree directly in his line and you’ve got a 0% success rate with this one, right? Wrong. 3-iron in hand, Tiger puts it to 8 feet and walks off with a birdie. Here’s a lesson on making the impossible possible:

No.1 – 2005 Masters

This is it, Tiger’s green side chip at the 16th at Augusta. This one shot epitomises everything Tiger Woods has encompassed during his career. Talent, skill, determination, failure to give up – this moment is one of the best in sporting history, let alone golf. Sit back, relax and watch Tiger Woods at his very best:

Tiger Woods is paired with Patrick Reed for the first 2 rounds of the Hero Challenge, they get their first round underway on Thursday at 12pm ET (5pm GMT).
