This is one tip that probably doesn’t work quite as well for elite athletes. But even they could do with forgetting about the competition at times and concentrating on what they are doing. It is especially important for the majority of us that aren’t competing at the pinnacle of our chosen sport.

Forget about keeping up with the guy down the road that can run laps of the block much quicker than you. Concentrate instead on upping your personal best and improving your times. You should not push yourself so much that you either give up or burn out. Look to gradually improve all the time and you will be moving in the right direction. 

Eat a Balanced Diet

We all know this one right? For the best results from your daily exercise you need to fuel your body in the right way and get energy to your muscles. That means making sure that you eat a balanced breakfast and then keep that kind of commitment going for the rest of the day.

Carbohydrates are what give you the fuel for your exercise, but your body also needs protein and even fat to perform at an optimum level. Ensuring that the balance of these three is crucial to getting the most of your exercise – and to keep up your healthy lifestyle.

Make Sure You Get a Good Sleep

This one sounds a little like a cop out, to be honest. But getting a good night’s sleep is crucial to your wellbeing. Workaholic business types may brag about surviving on four hours’ sleep, but that is nowhere near enough to recharge from the day and prepare your body for the tests of tomorrow.

Seven or eight hours is much more like it – and you should be looking to get as comfortable a sleep as possible. Your body will thank you the next day and you won’t want to pile on the calories in the same way as you would if you didn’t get the most out of your nightly slumber.

Record Your Stats

Our final tip ties in with not comparing yourself to others. You will only know whether you are improving if you are making a record of how you are doing. There are plenty of great free to download mobile apps these days to help you note down just exactly how well you are doing each day.

Depending on the app, it may even give you tips on how to improve your performance. But even if you are just writing down your times and reps on a piece of paper, it will provide a record of how you are doing – and how you are improving your healthy lifestyle.
