The Canon Hayes Community Recreation Centre provides sporting and recreation facilities for Tipperary Town and hinterlands.  Opened in 1987 the facilities include a Gym, ladies only fitness suite, Sports Hall, Squash and Racquetball courts, Sauna / Steamroom, Aerobics studio, tennis courts, Astro turf pitches and a Running track.  We also provide childcare facilities.

We are a community based Centre built by the community for the community.  It is run by a 15 member voluntary management committee.  Over the years we have installed 3 all-weather flood lit astro turf pitches and 2 flood lit tennis courts.  We have extended and upgraded our gym, opened a ladies only fitness suite and added a changing area/shower facility for the disabled.  We have also installed automatic front doors thus enabling easy access for wheelchair patrons.

When the Centre opened in 1987 it was the only major sports facility of it’s kind in the area and surrounding districts.  Now, however many of the small villages and towns have their own sporting facilities.  Hotels also have leisure centres thus making the industry very competitive. We are a community not for profit organisation and we operate a pay-as-you go system and rely heavily on groups and teams booking the main hall to generate income to keep the Centre operating effectively. We are involved in the link-to-work programme whereby we give unemployed patrons 10% off the weekly rate for the gym. We also allow a Youth Project (a group of unemployed) a free hour in the pitches every week throughout the year. We offer special rates to students, over 55’s, special disability rates and disadvantaged groups. We have an open door policy thus enabling people from all walks of life to use our facilities.

As a community based Centre we strive to provide the best possible facility for our community.  It is essential also that we remain competitive in order to preserve jobs and continue to provide a first class service as we have been doing for the past 29 years. As the Centre approaches  it’s 30th year there are areas which require upgrading.  We hope that you can assist us in achieving our goal. Your sponsorship, no matter how big or small will help with this upgrading. We are very grateful for your support and thank you for your generosity.
