NAME • MATT EARLES | EVENT • DUATHLON | TEAM • LOVELO CINELLI & DUNSTABLE ROAD RUNNERS | BASED • BERKHAMSTED, HERTS | DOB • 06-08-1975 |
Making the transition from ‘boxing ring’ to ‘chain ring’ was something that seemingly came naturally to Matt Earles aka ‘lutonbod’ (known as such on social media due to his firm roots to his birthplace).
Matt was previously an ABA qualified boxing coach and is still actively involved with www.hrabc.co.uk as the chairman, a boxing club set up by him and his friends within a deprived area of Luton to get disadvantaged young people actively involved in boxing.
The drive, passion, determination and fighting spirit that Matt brought from the years of boxing training have been key to his relative successes in cycling, duathlons and triathlons. After less than two years of cycling, Matt had seen himself qualify to represent his age group for Great Britain at the Duathlon world championships in 2016. The most impressive fact of all, the qualifying event was his first ever duathlon.
After a top 20 finish at the world championships he came away to improve and after subsequently qualifying for the forthcoming European Championships (April 2017) to represent GB again this time for the longer “Standard” distance.
Matt dedicates all his spare time to his training getting up at 5am for regular running and brick sessions along with cycling on average up to 200 miles per week either on road, mountain biking or turbo training. He is a firm believer that “you get out what you put in”. This is also evident in the strict diet he follows to support his training.
WHERE DO YOU COME IN ?
The purpose of this page is to help to support Matt’s journey to this year’s European Duathlon Championships (29th & 30th April 2017 in Soria, Spain) through the genorosity of people like you! Sadly, duathlon is not supported or funded by any national governing body so the preparation for and the event itself is entirely self funded. Even at local level it’s an expensive sport, not to mention internationally.
Someone suggested that Matt should offer people items they could donate to and if in some way he could reward that and this is the perfect platform to do so.
Some of the associated costs for this event are:
Training nutrition (supplements and nutrients) cosisting of protein, vitamins, energy gels / bars & unique recovery drinks – Approx £500
Training rehab (massage etc) – Bi weekly sports massage - Approx £500
Event Bike (new TT bike build) – Approx £2000
Event kit – (shoes, tracksuit, trisuit, helmet) – £1000

Duathlon World championships. Aviles, Spain - April 2017
Last year Matty represented Great Britain at the Duathlon World Championships in Aviles, Spain
F3 Events Duathlon. Eton Dorney - 19th February 2017
Today Matt took part in effectively his first Duathlon of the season. Sunday's event was made up of a tough field of GB age groupers and incredibly windy conditions, but saw him take 6th place and 2nd in his age category. Not a bad start to the season considering it was his very first outing on a newly built race bike.
