Hi! My name is Jenny Claffey, I am a 24-year-old professional tennis player from Blackrock, Co.Dublin.

I recently began my career on the professional tennis circuit. My debut on the ITF women’s tour was a month ago and in my first ever 3 tournaments I acquired 7 WTA singles points and 16 doubles points entering the world rankings in the shortest possible time on tour.

As a result of this,I have obtained a singles ranking of 1025 making me Ireland’s number 2 female tennis player. My doubles ranking is 880 and I am the Irish number 1 doubles ranked player. I am currently one of only two internationally ranked female tennis players from Ireland.

I started playing tennis when I was 6 years old. My mum Breeda  is a coach and she is the one who got me started with tennis. Through my junior years I had aspirations of becoming a professional tennis player. I won numerous National titles and was ranked no.1 u12,u14,u16. At 17 I had a bad injury for 2 years, in that time I decided to finish school and pursue a University degree. While in University I played Federation Cup for Ireland on 3 occassions. During this time I also obtained my Level 1 Coaching course. My passion for tennis was so great that despite getting a degree I became a tennis coach.

At the start of 2015, I decided to make a go at the professional circuit. However, with the cost of playing and travelling I decided I would continue to coach, doing fewer hours, and increase my training schedule and fitness training.  I am working to pay the bills and help with the cost of training and travelling.

My Goals:

·         To reach World’s Top 500 in 2015

·         To reach World’s Top 200 in 2016

·         To reach World’s top 100 by 2019

·         To play in the Grand Slam events (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open)

·         To represent Ireland in Federation Cup for the next decade

·         To represent Ireland in 2020 Olympic games

·         To become a role model and inspiration for future female Irish tennis players and sportswomen

In order to achieve this I need to play 25 tournaments per year, which will enable me to compete at the highest level required to climb up the world rankings. The more tournaments I play, the more experience I can obtain and a better player I can become.

I currently train everyday on court and physically 6 days a week. I am utterly passionate about tennis and I am so determined to achieve my goals. In pursuit of my dream, the only obstacle is finances. However with your help, I can take my game to the next level and achieve my goals.
