Support

Thanks everyone for taking time to view my campaign.

Having run a marathon time of 2:15:14h in the Berlin Marathon last September, I am qualified to compete at the Rio Olympic Games. Here I am making plans to do my best to represent Ireland at the greatest sporting event on the earth.

About me

My name is Sergiu Ciobanu, I’m 32 years old. When I was 22 I emigrated from Moldova to Ireland and joined Clonliffe Harriers A.C. I have competed with the club to win several national titles.

I became an Irish citizen in February 2015 and represented Ireland for the first time at the European Cross Country Championship in France Dec 13 2015.

My wife Eimear and I live in Clonmel in County Tipperary, where I train daily, mornings and evenings, averaging  100-120miles per week.

I’m a qualified physical therapist and work part time, but to compete against the world’s best marathon runners I plan to take time off work and train full time, which nowadays can be very expensive.

I don’t get funding from any organisation and don’t know if I’ll get any but I have to plan my 2016 route to the Rio Olympic Games.

Where you come in

The reason I have taken to PledgeSports is to raise funding which will go towards the cost of training camps abroad. The contributions will cover the cost of supplements, equipment, medical expenses,  post training sessions recovery such cryo therapy etc. Living cost is also a factor here too.

My goal is to raise here €6000 to help me fund warm weather training camps in February and March, followed by altitude camps in May, June, July prior to the European Track and Field Championships and Rio Olympic Games.

If, with your support, we could raise €6000 it would make a huge impact on my route to Rio and I would really appreciate your support in making this happen.

See you on the roads!
