Hi there everyone! We are the Irish Women’s Hockey Team. We have decided to run a PledgeSports campaign so that we can achieve our goal of representing Ireland in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. As part of the preparation and qualification for The Games, The Green Army, will compete in a number of key world events, the first of which is theChampions Challenge 1. This will be held on 27th April – 4th May 2014 in the Glasgow National Hockey Centre in Scotland. This tournament is an international hockey event played every two years.
The Champions Challenge is a key world event for the team to compete in as they continue on the path of qualifying for the Olympics in 2016. We came so close to qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics when we reached the Olympic Qualifier Final, but unfortunately we narrowly missed out. This has given us the drive and motivation to work even harder so that we can qualify and represent our country this time around. We are incredibly determined and are working tirelessly to make history to bring an Irish women’s hockey team to the Olympics in two years’ time. We are giving that extra push and with your kindness and support you can get this team & group of athletes all the way to the Olympics!
The Irish women’s team is made up of amateur hockey players, however they train like professionals. A typical week may include 4 strength & conditioning sessions (often with a 6am start before work!), 5 on field training sessions & multiple tactical meetings. Alongside this there are 35+ international test matches in 2014 alone! So as you can see, we are incredibly committed to getting an Irish Women’s Hockey Team to the Olympics – and by doing so, making history. But what difference can you make by pledging to this group on PledgeSports? Quite a lot actually! As our National Coach Darren Smith said himself
“This is a fantastic opportunity to get on board with the Green Army as we push toward qualification for the Rio 2016 Olympics. Any support that you can give us through our PledgeSports campaign will allow us to spend that extra day, week or month in camp preparing to help make this dream a reality. Be part of the Green Army in their Olympic journey.”
The cost of sending our teams to compete internationally is huge and often inhibiting, ranging from €40,000 – €60,000. This is a huge sum of money! Travel expenses and accommodation constitute the bulk of our expenses. As we are a National team, we have received some funding, although very generous and graciously accepted, we require additional contributions in order to perform at our best and represent our country. Your support can really make a monumental difference to get us through to the next level. All funds raised will go towards preparing us to compete and qualify for the Olympics. We appreciate every penny contributed to our campaign and are extremely grateful for every bit of help we receive. Your belief in us as a team means the world to everyone involved. When we play we will be playing for you, for the green jersey knowing that your support has made all the difference. Join us on our journey to Rio.
Thank you for supporting us!
