The Festival of World Cups is an international community event with competitions held for University/Students, Police and Defence Forces teams. The Wales Students side was formed in 1988 by the late Dr Phil Melling and went on to enter the 1989 Students World Cup. Since then they have reached the semi-finals of the 1992, 2008 and 2013 World Cups. This year, the lads are looking to go straight to the top.

Wales Student Rugby League side would like to thank you for your donation and continued support of this squad. With the Rugby Football League confirming the potential withdrawal of £70,000 of funding to WRL junior development, every donation we receive is more important than ever. We are currently fundraising to get the squad and its staff to the World Cup which is being held in Australia from the 5th -17th of July. The trip is wholly funded by the players and aims to cover the costs of travel, tournament fees, accommodation, kit and more with each player aiming to raise £3,000 with a total goal of £110,000.

This is huge amount as the side consists of students who are in full time university education, many of whom are in their final years and writing dissertations, as well as training/competing at an elite level in sports. This leaves the players with little time to raise the money themselves which is why your donations are so vital to this campaign. We are hoping to raise £10,000, and maybe more as an initial booster to help the students, contributing £277 to each players campaign. For over 25 years players from the Wales Students side have progressed to playing rugby professionally, with some becoming full Wales Internationals. Therefore tournaments such as these are a vital development tool. Sides such as this one are the future of Welsh Rugby League, be part of something great and make a donation!
