Hi, my name is Lucy Shuker. I am a Paralympic Wheelchair Tennis player who made history at the London 2012 Paralympic Games alongside Jordanne Whiley winning Great Britain’s first ever women’s wheelchair tennis medal.

MY STORY

I had my accident in 2001, previously a keen horse rider and talented badminton player, I did a degree in Science and Management of Exercise and Health before walking straight into a sales job. With my first pay pack I completed my motorbike licence, but just 12 days after passing my test, I came off my bike while taking a corner on a country road which left me paralysed from the chest down.

I spent 10 months in Salisbury Spinal Unit and it was during my stay here that I met Paralympic Gold Medalist Pete Norfolk who introduced me to wheelchair tennis. Despite being one of the more disabled players on the tour, I am proud to continue to compete among the World’s best having played at all four major tennis Grand Slams and represented Great Britain at both the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Paralympics.

I am currently ranked World No. 7 and aiming for my biggest success in Rio. I have a real opportunity to achieve a Gold Medal alongside my doubles partner Jordanne Whiley and I am working to ensure that I do everything that I can to realise this dream.
