Sports Crowdfunding Campaign Of The Week: Pam Thorburn

PledgeSports have the pleasure of working with some phenomenal athletes and teams. Each week we choose one of them as the PledgeSports “Sports Crowdfunding Campaign of the Week”.

Screen Shot 2016-12-29 at 20.39.25This week’s winner is British ski cross athlete Pam Thorburn. Pam has launched a sports crowdfunding campaign to raise money which will support her bid to qualify for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in February.

According to Pam, spectator sports don’t come much better than ski cross.

“As extreme as it can get, 4 people, battling it out against each other over huge jumps, bumps and big turns in a race to the finish. The top 2 progress to the next round until a winner is found!” said Pam.

Pam has been skiing all her life, learning her trade at Glasgow Ski Centre as a child, racing against her older brother and the other children at the facility. From there, she was selected for the British children’s team, before making the national junior team, and ultimately the British senior team where she competes against the other top skiers in the world.

Unfortunately, Pam’s career has been plagued by injury, which, despite her incredible talent, has held her back from representing Great Britain at the Winter Olympics. But now she is full of fight and ready for her chance.

brits“13 surgeries later and I’m working my way to the next Olympic Games in Pyeongchang 2018. After such setbacks, I won’t give up. I know I haven’t reached my full potential and for the first time since starting Ski Cross.

“I have the opportunity to have a coach, a proper pre season training program and a chance to try to level the playing field against the rest of the world,” said Pam.

Qualifying for the Olympics comes at a cost, and not just in terms of hours and hours of work, but financially too. Your support will help Pam get to the French and Swiss Alps for a training camp this summer, then onto a vital spell of preparation in South America before joining the World Tour as part of the Olympic qualification process.

Pam’s challenging tale of injuries and setbacks can have a fairytale ending, but that is only possible if you join her on her journey to Pyeongchang. If you would like to support Pam you can do so by visiting her sports crowdfunding page here.
