Ever since football was invented, there has been a lot of debate about the best football player. Every year, different sports companies are rounding up a list of the top football players. This year is no different. While the pandemic Covid-19 halt almost all football tournament, it is not going to stop us to rank the best football players of 2020.

Naming the best football players of the year is a never-ending debate. In this list, we’ll name our top 5 players based on player’s achievement, personal talent, and consistency in making a good play not only in the tournament this year but also in the last couple of years.

Lionel Messi 

Many football aficionados consider Lionel Messi as the greatest football player of all time. His free-kick and passes are both outrageous and a scene to watch. He scored some of the most remarkable goals in the history of football. 

In terms of achievement, Leonel Messi won the Ballon d’Or six times, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup. He also received the Best FIFA Men’s Player awards. With this award and recognition, it is hardly surprising to see the name of Lionel Messi in the list of best football players ever

Cristiano Ronaldo

A talented footballer is an understatement if you’re going to use it to Cristiano Ronaldo. Tag by many fans as the Portuguese cyborg, Ronaldo is one of the most effective goal scorers in the world of football. Ronaldo holds the record for most goals in the UEFA Champions League scoring 128 goals. He has scored 734 goals in his senior career.

Aside from being an excellent goal scorer, Ronaldo is also an outstanding dribbler and free-kick specialist. He also recorded 219 assists in his career. With his exceptional talent, he won six league titles, five European Cups and one European Championship. He was also awarded footballer of the year ten times and is the most followed athlete globally

Pele’

While Pele is a long-retired player, many still consider him as one of the best football players. In fact, many tagged him as the King of Football. In his 24 years of career as a football player, Pele’ scored more than 1000 goals. Even today, no one has ever beat this record. 

During his time, Pele’ was the best-paid athlete in the world. Time Magazine also named him as one of the 100 most important people of the 20th century. Many fans also claimed that Pele’ made Brazil the football nation. He received individual awards like FIFA Player of the Century, the FIFA World Cup Best Young Player. 

Kylian Mbappé 

Kylian Mbappé is widely considered one of the best players today in the football world. Mbappé’s skills rival Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s talent. He has unmatched strength, explosive speed, and outstanding dribbling talent. He made a professional debut at the age of 15 where he won a League 1 title in 2015. And at the age of 18, he made an international debut for France in the year 2017.  

One notable achievement of Mbappé is when he scored at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. That score made Mbappé as the youngest French player to score at a World Cup. He also became the second teenager after Pelé, to score in a World Cup Final. 

Robert Lewandowski

Many football fans consider Robert Lewandowski as the best striker in the world. He is also the top scorer for Poland with 61 international goals. In 2016, he claimed the fourth place at the 2015 FIFA Ballon d’Or Awards. Lewandowski has been also named eight times Polish Player of the Year.
