Soon esports will take over, but why?

People like comfort. This is a given fact, we like comfort naturally. The brain does everything to keep people in comfort and never to leave the comfort zone. However, this is not the only reason why esports is slowly moving up the ranks. There are many different factors out there like cost, ease of organisation, accessibility and others. In contrast, traditional sports have been around forever. Our ancestors played it, and it is great physically and helps mentally.

So, abandoning traditional sports seems unlikely. A little comparison; the esport scene has almost more viewers internationally than the NBA does in america. The actual numbers and stats are available widely on the net. One source that has been respected and used in the community is www.fragster.com. They are the leading esport magazine where you can get more information.

Now, let’s look at some reasons why the market is turning and traditional sports are threatened.

Relatability and Accessibility

Video games are accessible to anyone, anywhere. So playing a video game and then seeing pro players playing the same game or in the same position is something that people love. People who watch an esports tournament and people who play video games too will feel immersed and connected. Feeling like they are part of something big, a movement, a fanbase.

With more video games getting free-to-play (like cs:go and PUBG), and the requirements of hardware set to a lower standard, everyone and their dogs can get into gaming. All jokes aside, the gaming industry makes a great effort to make gaming accessible to everyone around the globe, which is a good thing. So, this is a reason for many people to join in, and it is why there is a strong growth in the market.

Laid back watching and easy understanding

As you tune in to a sport, you may not know what the rules are right away, unless you are a veteran or someone who already knows the sport well. Well, with esport, as soon as you tune in to watch an esports game, you know or can guess what objective the players are trying to get at. So, in a sense, it does not require any upfront knowledge for someone to start watching an esports game they have never touched. This is another reason why there is a strong influx in the esports scene.

Money and transparency

Technically, in esports, there is a lot of cash. The industry is just booming, with prizes over tens of millions. Something we never see in traditional sports where athletes get paid much less. But why is this? It is strange, since there is much more money in traditional sports than in esports. This may be hinting at the question of transparency – where does the money go? Corruption happens in every sport, including esport. But, it is very clear that in traditional sports corruption is a big money leak. Athletes are paid minimum wage compared to esport teams. This is another reason more and more people are starting to turn to esports.

Comfort and ease

Esports are video games played competitively, something that does not require strenuous exertion psychically. However, it is a mental exercise. For this reason, people like playing in the esports scene since it does not put a lot of physical stress on you. So more people choose to become an esports athlete rather than a traditional sports athlete. This is fuelling the scene with more competition, and ultimately leading to a bigger scene and a bigger audience.

Should you ditch your sports magazine subscription?

Not really, even though looking at the numbers, the esports scene will at some moment in time overtake traditional sports.Traditional sports will still exist; it will just have to share the stage with the esports scene and its audience as it gets more and more advanced.
