The upcoming men’s Caribbean Twenty20 Cricket Premier League (CPL T20) tournament is scheduled to run between August 31st and September 30th 2022, and it looks as though three of the favourites that could potentially win this year are the Trinibago Knight Riders. However, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbados Royals also have favourable odds.

What is the CPL 2022?

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL or CPLT20) is a yearly Twenty20 cricket tournament that was founded as recently as 2013 by Cricket West Indies. It replaced the previous contest that was known as Caribbean Twenty20. A total of 6 teams, including Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaican Tallawahs, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Saint Lucia Kings, and Trinibago Knight Riders, will be competing against each other in a group stage and knockout tournament to be crowned this year’s winner. The event will get underway on August 31st, and the final is scheduled to take place on September 30th.

The tournament is currently sponsored by Hero MotorCorp (hence why this year it is called the Hero CPL), and the current reigning champion is Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots. In the group stages of the tournament, a total of ten matches are played, which means that the teams play each other twice. Three of their games will be played out at home, and although this may sound strange, it’s because all six competing teams will be playing at the same venue. After the first matches are out of the way, the next stage of the tournament will be played in St Lucia.

You then have the playoffs – two semi-final matches that will be played in Guyana at Providence Stadium, Providence, followed by the final, which is also being held at the same venue in Guyana. The remaining three elimination playoff games will be played at the Queen’s Park Oval and Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. If you wanted to, you could place a bet on CPL 2022 on 10CRIC right now – with online betting so easy to do, you could have a winning bet placed in the ‘blink of an eye’. This highly trusted website currently has favourable odds and multiple betting markets open for each of the Caribbean Twenty20 Cricket Premier League matches, but don’t forget that betting odds can vary from now until the start of the event. Some people like to bet early, while others prefer to wait until the action is about to start.

Trinbago Knights

The Trinbago Knights cricket team are currently the favourites to outright win the upcoming Caribbean Twenty20 Cricket Premier League with odds of around 3.00 (in decimal odds). In fractional odds, this works out to 2/1, and in American/Moneyline odds, it works out to +200. Trinbago Knight Riders are no strangers to the league tournament, having won four times (2015, 2017, 2018, and 2020). The team was founded as recently as 2013, and the captain of the team is Kieron Pollard. They play in red, black, purple, and gold and their home ground is the Queen’s Park Oval and Brian Lara Cricket Academy, which has a 20,000 capacity.

St Kitts & Nevis Patriots

The St Kitts & Nevis Patriots team are second joint-favourites to win, along with the Jamaica Tallawahs, and the Barbados Royals. All three of these teams are currently priced at 5.00 (or 4/1 in fractions and +400 in American/Moneyline odds). St Kitts & Nevis Patriots formed in 2015. They play their home games at the Warner Park, Basseterre stadium, which has a 10,000-seat capacity, and they play in red, black, white, green, and yellow. They are the current reigning champions, having won in 2021. The captain of this team at the time of writing is Dwayne Bravo.

Jamaica Tallawahs

The Jamaica Tallawahs, as mentioned, are currently second joint-favourites to win the CPL 2022 with 5.00 (4/1 or +400) odds. They formed in 2013, and they play their home games at Sabina Park and Central Broward Regional Park, which has a 15,600-seat capacity. They play in green, black and gold, and the captain of the team is Rovman Powell. The Jamaica Tallawahs team has also won the Caribbean Premier League twice. Their first victory came in 2013, and they went on to win again in 2016.

Barbados Royals

The Barbados Royals (or the Barbados Tridents as they were known from 2013-20) currently have 5.00 (4/1 or +400) odds of winning, along with St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and the Jamaica Tallawahs. This team also formed in 2013 and has also won the CPL twice, once in 2014 and then again in 2019. They play their home games at the Kensington Oval, and they play in blue, sky blue, and yellow. The current captain of the Barbados Royals is Jason Holder.

Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Lucia Kings

The other two teams that will be taking place at this year’s CPL cup are the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the St Lucia Kings. Guyana Amazon Warriors are currently priced at 6.50 (11/2 and +550), and the St Lucia Kings team is currently priced at 7.00 (6/1 or +600). Both teams formed in 2013, and neither team has yet to win the Caribbean Premier League of cricket. The Guyana Amazon Warriors team play in gold, green, red, black, and white, and they play at the Providence Stadium, which has a 15,000-seat capacity. At the time of writing, the captain of the team has yet to be revealed.

It is also unclear at the time of writing as to who will captain the Saint Lucia Kings team. They play in blue, yellow, black, and white, and their home ground is the Darren Sammy Stadium, which has a 15,000-seat capacity. Don’t forget that betting on the favourite team isn’t always a sure thing, so only gamble what you can afford to lose.
