UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Aspinall

UFC Fight Night delivered a night of action and drama when two of the baddest men in the heavyweight division faced off in UFC Fight Night 208. Curtis “Razor” Blaydes vs. Tom Aspinall served as the main event fight on a card with many exciting bouts. The crowd at the 02 Arena certainly had a lot to take away from the event as they were put through several contrasting emotions. For the gambling fans, especially those who took advantage of how easy it was to deposit on sites like betting.net, unwrapping what happened at the tail end of the fight night was not so straightforward. The preliminary and main cards delivered some bangers before the main event itself.

Preliminary Card

The packed 02 Arena had to endure a mild start to proceedings as the first four bouts went to the judge’s scorecards. Unanimous Decision victories for UK fighters Jai Herbert and Muhammad Mokaev were eagerly celebrated by the thousands of fans in attendance. American fighter Jonathan Pearce scored the first TKO of the night with a vicious ground and pound TKO victory over Makwan Amirkhani.

Here’s the summary of the preliminary card results:

  • Claudio Silva vs. Nicolas Dalby – Nicolas Dalby won via Unanimous Decision
  • Mandy Bohm vs. Victoria Leonardo – Victoria Leonardo won via Unanimous Decision
  • Jai Herbert vs. Kyle Nelson – Jai Herbert won via Unanimous Decision
  • Muhammad Mokaev vs. Charles Johnson – Muhammad Mokaev won via Unanimous Decision
  • Makwan Amirkhani vs. Jonathan Pearce – Jonathan Pearce won via TKO (Ground and Pound)
  • Nathaniel Wood vs. Charles Rosa – Nathaniel Wood won via Unanimous Decision
  • Marc Diakese vs. Damir Hadzovic – Marc Diakese won via Unanimous Decision
  • Mason Jones vs. Ludovit Klein – Ludovit Klein won via Unanimous Decision

Main Card

The main card started with a UD loss for Scottish fighter Paul Craig who couldn’t get past Volkan Oezdemir.

In the following bout, Molly McCann quickly dispatched American fighter Hannah Goldy in the first round via TKO with a trademark spinning elbow and punches.

McCann’s victory was immediately followed by her teammate Paddy Pimblett’s much-publicized feud with Jordan Leavitt, which ended in a RND submission for “The Baddy” in front of his home crowd. Molly McCann and Paddy Pimblett’s success in the UFC will inspire other MMA fighters from the UK

The fight night ended with the main event of Curtis Blaydes vs. Tom Aspinall. The Englishman was making his second appearance at the 02 Arena this year, but this outing turned out to be completely different from what the crowd and, least of all, Aspinall was hoping for. Only fifteen seconds into the first round, Aspinall threw a hard leg kick at Blaydes and promptly fell to the canvas grimacing in pain. Veteran referee Herb Dean immediately stepped in and waved off the fight, and soon after, Blaydes was announced as the winner via TKO.

It was an anticlimactic ending to a bout many were looking forward to. Aspinall later revealed that he would have to undergo surgery for the damage to his knee. He was previously undefeated in the UFC, with all five of his victories coming by way of stoppage. We wish the talented number 6-ranked heavyweight a speedy recovery.

Here’s the summary of the main card results.
