While American Football may be just an American sport, that doesn’t stop it from being a global giant. The figures behind it are astounding, and the NFL has the biggest TV rights deal in any sport. The NFL signed a new 9 year deal from 2014 to 2022 with four US networks CBS, Fox, NBC and ESPN which works out at $4.5 billion a year in combined payments from four networks. A quite remarkable amount of money for one sport.

10. Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins haven’t had much success since the 80’s but they did win 2 Super Bowls. In the 1970s, they went to 3 straight Super Bowls—losing the first to Dallas and winning the next two. They have been runner up 3 times, the last Super Bowl appearance was in 1984 when they lost to the 49ers. They’ve made the playoffs 23 times, most recently in 2016.
9. Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders
The raiders have made 5 Super Bowl appearances with two wins in 1976, 1980 and 1983. They have been runner up twice with 22 playoff appearances, the most recent being in 2016.

Their NFL record is almost the very same as the Giants with 5 appearances, 4 wins (1966, 1967, 1996, 2010) One loss and 32 playoff appearances. Were putting them ahead because of their unrivalled pre Super Bowl success, 9 pre Super Bowl Championships.
5. Denver Broncos
The Broncos have been in more Super Bowls than the 49ers with 8, but only won 3 in 1997, 1998 and 2015. They have 15 division championships and 22 playoff appearances.
4. San Francisco 49ers
5 Super Bowl wins (1981, 1984, 1988, 1989, 1994) They were runner up at the 2012 Super Bowl. Throw in 19 division championships and 26 playoffs and you have the 4th best NFL team in the Super Bowl era.
3. The Dallas Cowboys
With a valuation of $5.5 billion, the Cowboys are the most valuable sports team on the planet. The have also made the Super Bowl 8 times and won it 5 times (1971, 1977, 1992, 1993 and 1995) 95 was their last appearance. They have 24 division championships and made the playoffs 33 times, the most recent for both was 2018.
2. Pittsburg Steelers
They may not have had much recent success but the Steelers have a great Super Bowl History with 8 – 6 champions in 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 2005 and 2008. They were twice runner up in 2005 and 2010. They have 23 division championships and 31 playoff appearances, most recently in 2017.
1. The New England Patriots
The Patriots have really dominated the NFL since 2001, with 6 Super Bowl titles (2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017 and 2019. The have been in 11 Super Bowls with 5 losses, which puts them way out in front as the greatest NFL team in the Super Bowl era.
